How to Find Houghton Quarry

There are 2 entrances to the quarry.

 1. Park at the Chalk Hill PH, and cross the main road (A5) at the central bollards a few metres to your right as you leave the car park. Almost in front of you is a signpost for the ‘Icknield Way Footpath’ which takes you down some fairly steep steps to the track at the bottom of the embankment in front of a row of cottages (it may be easier for you to walk to the right to the track entrance at the end of the cottages When on the track, in both cases, turn left and follow the footpath which turns right along an alleyway between 2 properties. Follow this all the way to the field at the end PLEASE NOTE – this path can be overgrown and slippery and at one point, the path narrows due to erosion and there is a 3m drop where there is no fence! When you get to the field, take the path that goes at a diagonal to the right, taking you to a large gap in the hedge and into the quarry.

 2. Park in Millers Way and walk back to the main road (A5120 – Houghton Road) and turn right. You will within about 25 m need to take the footpath off to the right. The improvised constriction (upright girders) will probably mean you have to remove your rucksack! Walk along the path and within about 50 m come to another constriction and a gap in the fence – this is the quarry entrance.
